CONSIDER THIS: THE COST OF STUNTING ON MALAYSIA’S CHILDREN
CONSIDER THIS: THE COST OF STUNTING ON MALAYSIA’S CHILDREN
According to global estimates, Malaysia’s childhood stunting rate has risen to 24.3% in 2024, which is higher than Indonesia, Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand. Over the past two decades, Malaysia appears to be the only country in the region to have regressed. However the Health Minister disputes the 24% figure, pointing instead to national survey data showing 21.2%. But even that means roughly one in five Malaysian children under five are stunted. What will it take to reverse the trend? On this episode of #ConsiderThis Melisa Idris speaks with Professor Dr Poh Bee Koon, Professor of Nutrition at the Center for Community Health Studies under the Faculty of Health Sciences at UKM. She’s also the Chair of the Health and Advanced Medicine Research Cluster at Center for IDEA, UKM.

SEASON 2 EPISODE 19: JDT'S GOALKEEPING DILEMMA, SELANGOR MARCH IN SHOPEE CUP & N9 OFFENSIVE WOES
SEASON 2 EPISODE 19: JDT'S GOALKEEPING DILEMMA, SELANGOR MARCH IN SHOPEE CUP & N9 OFFENSIVE WOES
We're back again this time around in Trigo Hotel in downtown Kuala Lumpur bringing you guys coverage on Malaysian Football for the past week. JDT's hopes of reaching the ACL Elite round of 16 took a blow on Tuesday after a 2-1 loss to Sanfrecce Hiroshima, debate across all platforms arise as Jonathan Silva was shown an early red card in the 15th minutes, however fingers are pointed at a bigger question in the goalkeeping department. Selangor's draw against BG Pathum sent them through to the semi-finals as the runner-up in group A, but without the presence of Alvin Fortes who got red carded in the game , how will Selangor fare against Nam Dinh later on? Negeri Sembilan's a team with a single goal in 2026, still awaits it's striker to start banging goals, with options available in the bench, the question lingers whether the promises shown early in the season will start to bear its fruit? Join Keesh, Aiman and Chun Hang in this episode of The Malaysian Football Podcast, where we cherish, debate and discuss these topics in full spectrum. Special shoutout to Trigo Hotel!

CONSIDER THIS: RARE EARTHS — MALAYSIA’S MINE-TO-MAGNET AMBITIONS
Malaysia wants to move up the global value chain by building a full rare earths industry, from mining to high-value manufacturing ‘mine-to-magnet’. How well do we understand the benefits and challenges of developing the rare earth industry domestically? She’s also a Visiting Senior Fellow at the ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute in Singapore, a Board Member of ISIS Malaysia, and a Trustee of Khazanah Research Institute.

CONSIDER THIS: SHOULD KL HAVE AN ELECTED MAYOR & COUNCILLORS?
A proposal meant to study local governance in Kuala Lumpur has quickly become a national flashpoint. The idea of electing KL’s Mayor has sparked objections over race and political control, even before any formal reform is on the table. Can we separate fear from fact to examine what electing a mayor and councillors for KL would actually involve? On this episode of #ConsiderThis Melisa Idris speaks with Danesh Prakash Chacko, Chairperson of Persatuan Bertindak Pilihan Raya Bebas Dan Saksama (Tindak), and Dr Lim Mah Hui, Member of Penang Forum & a former Penang Island City Councillor.

CONSIDER THIS: PM TENURE LIMITS — TWO TERMS, TEN YEARS, OR SOMETHING ELSE?
The Cabinet has agreed to a proposal to put limits to a Prime Minister’s tenure, a move framed as a reform to strengthen democratic safeguards. But in a parliamentary system like Malaysia’s, term limits raise complex legal and political questions. How do we understand the nuance behind what sounds like a simple reform? On this episode of #ConsiderThis Melisa Idris speaks with Constitutional law expert Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr Shad Saleem Faruqi, and political scientist Professor Wong Chin Huat, Deputy Head of Strategy for the Asia Headquarters of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network at Sunway University.
